The participants are expected to discuss modern medical technologies and existing approaches to treating and rehabilitating cardiovascular patients. Also discussed will be the prevention of heart disease.
The congress will include the meetings of various sections, symposiums, roundtables, special interest courses, a competition between young researchers, and exhibitions. While the congress continues, television bridges will be setup with the leading cardiology centres of Russia and Europe.
The founders of the congress include Russia's Ministry of Health, the All-Russian Research Society of Cardiologists, the administration of St. Petersburg, the State Research Centre for Preventive Medicine and the Russian Research and Production Centre for Cardiology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the Academy of Military Medicine, the St. Petersburg Pavlov Medical University, and the Almazov Research Institute for Cardiology of the Ministry of Health of Russia.
In St. Petersburg, about 1.5 million residents suffer from some or other cardiovascular pathologies. The growth of affliction rate has been noted lately by medical practitioners. Of every 100,000 residents, 215 are left handicapped after a cardiovascular affliction. Half of the people who die in St. Petersburg fall victim to cardiovascular diseases.
