Extreme heat kills 10 people in Pakistan

The deaths from heatstroke occurred Monday and Tuesday in Sukkur, said Mohammed Kalim, a doctor at the state-run Civil Hospital in the city, located in the southern Sindh province.

Temperatures reached 46 degrees Celsius (114 degrees Fahrenheit).

Six people died at the hospital and four deaths were reported elsewhere in Sukkur, Kalim said. Three other people are in a serious condition at the hospital.

Much of Pakistan is facing sweltering conditions and water shortages this summer. At least 90 people were reported to have died of dehydration, diarrhea and sunstroke in the eastern Punjab province in May, according to the AP.
