Bradley Pendragon, 46, was to remain in police custody until Thai authorities cleared his travel documents, said Prayat Jingchit, head of Bangkok's Klongprem Prison, where the Australian served 11 years of a 15-year term.
Pendragon was convicted in 1995 for the rape of a 13-year-old handicapped girl and was also found guilty of beating and raping two girls, aged 8 and 11, at a Bangkok hotel, the Australian Associated Press reported.
Pendragon told reporters as he exited the prison that he planned to return to Australia.
