Temperatures in the southern city of Mostar hit 42 C on Wednesday, beating the previous June record of 40 C set in 1950, the Bosnian meteorology institute said.
In Sarajevo, the temperature rose to 35.7 C, beating the previous record of 35.2 Cfrom 1931, said the institute, whose records date back to 1888.
Hundreds of Bosnians, especially the elderly, have sought medical assistance in hospitals, and authorities advise citizens to stay indoors and avoid exposing themselves to the sun, the AP reports.
