Recruitment by the army has become more difficult in the last few years because of the risks that ground forces face in Iraq and Afghanistan and the appeal of civilian jobs and a college education in Britain, where the economy has been buoyant, the AP reports.
Newly released figures indicated that more than 15,000 soldiers have quit Britain's reserve army since the Iraq war began, and that hundreds of British soldiers have been diagnosed with psychiatric disorders since returning from service in Iraq.
