Venezuela’s officials hope for improving relations between Venezuela and Peru in connection with Alan Garcia victory on presidential elections. Venezuela's deputy foreign minister said Monday, that no expected changes in relations happened.
Vice Foreign Minister Pavel Rondon said Venezuelan officials had not yet formally discussed the results of Sunday's presidential runoff in Peru and that "for now" relations between the two South American countries would remain the same.
61 percent of Peruvians believe that the socialdemocratic candidate, Alan Garcia , defeated his nationalistic rival, Ollanta humala, in the TV debate aired on Sunday. A similar number of citizens will vote for Garcia in the runoff of the presidential race scheduled for June 4, reports “Pravda.ru” recently.
Garcia on Monday held an insurmountable lead of 53.5 percent against 46.5 percent for nationalist candidate Ollanta Humala, with 91 percent of the vote counted, Peru's national electoral authority said.
The Venezuelan leader and Garcia have exchanged numerous insults after Chavez openly endorsed Humala during the campaign. Rondon said Garcia's remarks in a victory speech late Sunday, in which he alluded to Chavez as being the principal loser in Peru's election, were "inappropriate" and "undignified" for a president-elect, reports the AP.
