Rocio Jurado, one of Spain 's most popular singers died. On her funeral in Friday came thousands fans. People were very exiting: threw flowers, wept and shouted out expressions of affection as Jurado's coffin, draped in the Spanish and Andalusian flags. Family and friends, including politicians, bullfighters and artists, had gathered to pay their last respects as her body lay at the church overnight. More than 10,000 went to pay their respects.
A feisty Andalusian women with feline eyes and flowing reddish hair, Jurado was known fondly as "la mas grande de Espana" - Spain 's greatest. She won myriad awards, recorded more than 30 records, performed on both sides of the Atlantic and appeared in nearly a dozen films, her first as a teenager. In 1985 she performed at the White House for then-U.S. President Ronald Reagan, as repotted “Pravda.ru” recently.
Expressions of grief poured in from around the country all day on Thursday, and newspapers across Spain on Friday carried pages of stories about Jurado, her career, her love life and her family. "Rocio Jurado, the fiery voice of Spanish music, has died," read the headline of Spain 's leading daily El Pais, reports the AP.
