Olmert: Israel will respond to Tel Aviv bombing «as necessary»

Israeli Prime Minister-designate Ehud Olmert said Israel would respond "as necessary" to a bombing which killed six people and the attacker Monday, but that despite their best efforts the country's army and police would never be able to foil each and every attempted strike by Palestinian militants. Speaking from Israel's parliament, shortly before it opened for its first session since last month's elections, Olmert did not elaborate on the likely nature of the response to the Tel Aviv bombing. "We will know how to react in such a way as will be necessary, he said in a brief statement. "We shall, of course continue to use all means at out disposal to prevent every other attempt."

Olmert said the blast, which occurred amid a high security alert during the Passover Jewish holiday, came as no surprise. "It's not something that we didn't fear would happen, we know the terrorist organizations groups continue at every moment to look for opportunities to carry out attacks inside Israel," he said. "The security forces are deployed in every corner, every place, but we also know that there is no way we can always prevent such attacks, under all circumstances, in every case", reports the AP.
