Landslide in Malaysia: road blocked

An overnight landslide blocked access to Malaysia's only legal casino in the Genting Highlands, but there were no reports of casualties, the casino operator said Friday.

The landslide occurred just before midnight Thursday, Resorts World Bhd. said in a statement. No casualties were reported and there were no vehicles on the road at the time of the incident, it said.

The national news agency Bernama said the road leading to the resort was blocked off by fallen earth and a huge boulder, and was cordoned off during the clean-up operation which concluded Friday morning.

Resorts World vice-president Anthony Yeo said traffic flow was marginally affected, as vehicles were diverted away from the stretch of road.

Yeo said crews were in the final stages of the clean-up operations and the resort remained open to vehicular traffic.

Resorts World runs the Genting Highlands Resort under the Genting group banner. The privately-held highland resort in central Malaysia is home to the majority-Muslim nation's only legal casino, reports the AP.
