Israeli troops surrounded a house in the West Bank town of Jenin on Thursday, exchanging fire with four wanted Palestinian militants inside, the army and Palestinian witnesses said.
Soldiers called on loudspeakers for the militants to surrender, witnesses said. Two of the fugitives were from Islamic Jihad and two belonged to the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a militant group with ties to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement,
A fierce gunbattle erupted raged throughout the operation, and Palestinians said bulldozers were heading toward the house, threatening to demolish the structure unless the militants surrender, reports the AP.
