One U.S. soldier was killed and four injured when their patrol was hit by a roadside bomb, the military said Wednesday.
The attack targeting soldiers from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division happened Tuesday near Tal Afar, about 420 kilometers (260 miles) northwest of Baghdad, the military said in a statement.
Three of the injured were taken to a nearby military hospital. The fourth soldier was treated and returned to duty, the statement said.
The name of the deceased soldier was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
At least 2,302 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians, reports the AP.
