More than 1,000 Muslims held a rally in Bangladesh 's capital Wednesday to protest the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, police and organizers said.
The protesters marched through streets outside the country's main mosque in downtown Dhaka , and later headed toward the Italian Embassy, a Dhaka Metropolitan police official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity in line with official policy.
But the police prevented the procession, organized by the hard-line group Khelafat Majlish, from reaching the embassy, the official said.
Protesters also burned Danish flags, reports the AP.
