London bombings suspect appeared in London court

A man charged with attempting to bomb the London Underground system on July 21 has made his first appearance in a British court.

As Pravda.ru said earlier, Hussain Osman, also known as Hamdi Issac, was extradited on Thursday from Italy where he was arrested by police on July 29.

Osman was charged Friday with attempted murder and conspiring with others to commit murder at Bow Street Magistrates' Court, sitting at Belmarsh high-security prison in southeast London, CNN says.

Osman spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and that he understood the proceedings, and said he had no permanent address. Osman, wearing a blue shirt and dark trousers, appeared calm.

Magistrate Timothy Workman denied an application for bail and remanded Osman in Belmarsh prison. He set his next court appearance for December 8 at the Old Bailey.

He was charged with seven offences, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, explosive offences and preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism.

Osman did not enter a plea to any of the charges.

The failed attacks on July 21 on three Tube trains a bus came two weeks after suicide bombings on London's transport system killed 52 people and the four bombers. No one died in the July 21 attacks.

British authorities sought Osman for his alleged role in the attempted bombing at Shepherd's Bush Tube station in west London.
