Croatian Jesuits can now pray through internet as "God is everywhere"

Croatia's Jesuits have launched a prayer Web site, offering a different prayer for each day of the month.

"We invite you to devote a space for your spirit here and now," said the site, launched earlier this month. "It seems to you that you can't pray surrounded with people and the noise. But God is everywhere."

Bozidar Nagy, a leading Croatian Jesuit, said he had become fascinated by similar Web sites offering prayers for other religions, and decided to launch one in his home country.

About 5,000 people have logged on so far in the country where nearly 90 percent of its 4.5 million people are Roman Catholics, Nagy said.

But he warned that online prayer cannot replace regular attendance at Mass.

"This is not a substitute for a Mass, a rosary or a meditation," Nagy told the Jutarnji list daily on Wednesday. "It's one thing to pray by your computer, in a hurry, but one should devote time for a peaceful prayer as well."
