A blast at the home of a Gaza family engaged in the Hamas militant group, killing four people, was caused by explosives that went off accidentally, the Palestinian Authority told.
However the Interior Ministry statement contradicted Hamas allegations that Monday night's explosion in the Gaza City neighbourhood of Shajaiya was the result of an Israeli air strike. The Israeli military strongly objected the accusations.
Israel's army has largely suspended its assassination campaign against militants under a seven-month-old ceasefire with the Palestinians.
Hamas in its turn has vowed to continue what it calls armed resistance against Israel after Israeli forces quit the Gaza Strip in a pullout expected to be completed by Sept. 15, Reuters reports.
