Police arrested a 16-year-old boy in the killing of his 7-year-old neighbor in suburban Berlin, a slaying that the suspect said was motivated by "personal frustration," police officials said Tuesday.
Seven-year-old Christian Schaldach went missing Saturday. About two hours later, his father found his naked body hidden in bushes near the playground in the upper-class neighborhood of Zehlendorf, where he had last been seen.
DNA samples taken from the body and crime scene were matched to those of the 16-year-old, who lived close to Schaldach, homicide detective Andre Rauhut told reporters. The teenager confessed to the killing after he was taken into police custody Monday night, Rauhut said.
"The 16-year-old (said) he met Christian, whom he knew personally from the neighborhood for years, Saturday morning at the playground in the area near where he was later found," Rauhut said. "Then, somewhat later at the scene of the crime, he hit him many times over the head. He also confessed he took the clothes off the youth, took them with him and threw them away. As a motive, he said he had personal frustration."
The teenager had a record as a violent offender and was awaiting trial in a separate case on the charge of causing serious bodily harm, prosecutors said, reports the AP.
