Madrid: ETA blamed in car bomb explosion

A &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/hotspots/2002/06/17/30454.html' target=_blank>car bomb exploded Wednesday in a business park on the outskirts of Madrid just after the morning rush hour, injuring 43 people.

Government officials blamed the Basque separatist group &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/world/2002/06/27/31246.html' target=_blank>ETA.

The blast blew out windows at the back of a modern six-storey brick-glass office building located about 10 metres from the car. Most of the injured were people inside the building who suffered cuts from flying glass shards.

"What saved me . . . was my computer," which faced the first-storey window, said Manuel Amenteros, communications director for Bull, the French computer maker with offices in the building, reports CBC News.

The bomb exploded at about 9:30 a.m., less than an hour after a warning call purportedly made by the Basque separatist group ETA. It shattered thick panes of glass in buildings spraying shards over a wide area and damaged cars.
