Russian tennis player Sharapova beats Williams to win WTA Championship

17-year-old Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova achieved another perfect season ending by winning the WTA Championship in Los Angeles.

&to=http://english.pravda.ru/science/ 19/95/380/13530_Sharapova.html' target=_blank>Russian teenager Maria Sharapova came from one set behind to beat American Serena Williams 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 Monday night to win the WTA Championship in Los Angeles.

The final was a rematch of the Wimbledon final, where Sharapova stunned Williams to claim her first grand slam title in July. The WTA Championship triumph also meant a perfect season ending for the 17-year-old Russian who won a total of five singles titles, reports Xinhua.

She earned $1 million -- tying the U.S. Open winner's check -- and received a new SUV worth $56,300. She said she planned to give the car or proceeds from its sale to the survivors of the September hostage-taking in Russia that left more than 300 people dead, half of them children.

Williams earned $500,000.
