Hollywood studio Warner Bros. Pictures announced Friday that little-known US television actor Brandon Routh has been chosen as the new star in an upcoming "Superman" &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/world/2003/01/31/42845.html ' target=_blank>movie. Routh, 25, whose credits include the ABC &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/fun/2003/02/12/43310.html ' target=_blank>soap opera "One Life to Live" and prime-time WB drama "Gilmore Girls," is the only casting choice announced for the film which has been long delayed due to the choice of directors.
"Superman 5" director Bryan Singer, who directed the "X-Men" movies for 20th Century Fox, said in a statement that he always had intended to hire an unknown to play the comic book hero in the upcoming film, Xinhua News reported.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Reeve, who died last week, made four Superman movies, the last being 1987's Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. Penned by X2 screenwriters Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty, Superman Returns will revisit the saga at a time just after Superman II.
