Number of the infected with West Nile increases

Nearly three months after the discovery of a dead crow signaled the arrival of West Nile virus in Santa Clara County, blood tests have confirmed that a 50-year-old San Jose man is the first to have contracted the disease from infected mosquitoes in the Bay Area.

Described as an active outdoorsman by Santa Clara County Health Officer Dr. Martin Fenstersheib, the victim is improving after a bout of high &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/cis/2002/10/10/38015.html' target=_blank>fever, headache, muscle weakness and other neurological symptoms that put him in a hospital for four days starting August 29.

"He's at home right now," Fenstersheib said at a San Jose press conference. "He's recovering and doing very well, but he's still not 100 percent.", reports San Francisco Chronicle.

According to the Arizona Republic News, the number of Arizonans infected with &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/usa/2002/08/24/35180.html' target=_blank>West Nile virus jumped Thursday after weeks of dwindling increases, health officials said Thursday.
