Zombie sequel Resident Evil: Apocalypse has gone straight to the top of the North American box office chart.

Starring Milla Jovovich, the follow-up to 2002's Resident Evil took $23.7m (Ј13.2m) in its opening weekend, knocking Hero from the number one slot.
