The pop singer Jay Kay was banned from driving for six months and fined Ј750 yesterday for speeding at 105mph on one of Scotland’s most notorious roads.
The singer, who fronts the chart-topping band Jamiroquai and who appeared in court under his real name, Jason Kay, was stopped by police after overtaking a string of vehicles on a stretch of the A9 near Perth earlier this year.
He admitted the speeding charge by letter in July but was ordered to appear in person at Perth Sheriff Court yesterday for sentencing. Sheriff Robert McCreadie told him his conduct was "entirely unacceptable", reports Scotsman.
"I'd set out early in the morning but had become stuck behind slow moving traffic on the single-carriageway road," he wrote.
"That meant I had been travelling for four hours at an average of about 30 miles an hour (48 km/h) by this stage. I was not driving a fast sports car but a four-wheel drive vehicle, which meant I wanted to make the most of this overtaking opportunity.
"I appreciate the maximum penalty for this offence could lead to the loss of my licence and this is a matter of grave concern to me." McCreadie told him his conduct was "entirely unacceptable.", wrote London Free Press.
