Latin Grammys: award and death

In light of his latest batch of Latin Grammys, Alejandro Sanz appreciates the irony of his winning album's title: "No Es Lo Mismo" ("It's Not the Same").

Actually, it was the same for the Spanish singer-songwriter when he swept the fifth annual Latin Grammys, presented Wednesday night in Los Angeles. A perennial favorite, with seven previous Latin Grammys and one Grammy, Sanz went four for four (best album, record, song and male pop vocal) this time.

Calling Thursday from his home in Spain, he was ecstatic over his latest good fortune. "It's funny, the world is an irony. I never expected that the record would win five Grammys (it also won for best engineered disc). I'm very happy, as you can imagine.", wrote Chicago Sun Times.

Tom Capone, whose real name was Luis Antonio Ferreira Goncalves, was killed in a motorcycle crash in Los Angeles.

The 37-year-old had been nominated in five categories at the awards, including producer of the year and album of the year.

Police said Capone may have run a red light before the crash and his body will be tested for traces of alcohol.

Capone died of "massive head trauma" after his motorcycle collided with a car on a major road, hours after the Latin Grammys ended on Wednesday night.

Police said his bike collided with a car driven by a 23-year-old woman at about 3:30am local time. Capone was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, reports BBC News.
