No "Adzharian scenario" in Abkhazia

Sukhumi rules out the possibility of the "Adzharian scenario" to be repeated in Abkhazia, the self-proclaimed republic on the territory of Georgia, the former autonomy. In 1992-1994 an armed conflict took place on its territory concerning its status towards Georgia.

"Abkhazia is not Georgia, its people have a different mentality," the foreign minister of the non-recognized republic of Abkhazia, Sergei Shamba, told RIA Novosti on phone.

"The Georgian politicians' trouble is that they do not take this into account," he pointed out when commenting on the statements by some Georgian politicians about the possibility of Tbilisi power spreading to Abkhazia. Shamba called these statements "arrogant".

He expressed confidence that the attempts to unite Abkhazia with Georgia by force are doomed to failure.

The long conflict between Tbilisi and Batumi (the capital of the Adzharian autonomous republic) ended in the early hours of Thursday by the resignation of Adzharian leader Aslan Abashidze and the temporary introduction of direct presidential rule in the republic.
