Regular round of talks on Russia's entry into WTO to be held in Brussels

A spokesman for the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade told RIA Novosti that a regular round of the talks on Russia's entry into the WTO is beginning in Brussels on Monday.

"The talks will last a week. The still outstanding issues relating to Russia's entry into the World Trade Organization will be discussed at them," the source said.

The Russian side intends, in particular, to raise questions linked with the EU's enlargement from May 1 when ten new member countries will enter the European Union, the source said.

"These are problems linked with transit of Russian cargoes across the countries which are joining the WTO, and also linked with an increase of the import duties, the carrying out of anti-dumping measures, and introduction of a ban on import of some Russian products, primarily nuclear fuel, to these countries," the Ministry spokesman explained.

The Russian delegation at the talks will be headed by Russia's Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Maxim Medvedkov.

Medvedkov earlier told journalists that the Russian companies' losses from the enlargement of the EU may amount to 150 million dollars.
