The OPEC top brass has annulled invitations of Russia, Oman, Mexico, Egypt and Syria to attend its 128th conference of energy and oil ministers of the cartel member countries, due to open in Vienna this afternoon. RIA Novosti found this out at the OPEC Secretariat General in Vienna.
A high-profile source in OPEC's Vienna HQ asserted that the cartel leaders had to make this step due to the insufficient interest of the invited observers in the upcoming conference and the delays in the delegation issue.
The participants in the emergency OPEC conference will consider issues dealing with quotas for crude oil extraction and export, and with the election of a new secretary general of the cartel. The term of the current secretary general, Alvaro Silva Calderon, will expire on December 31.
