The Georgian National Security Council, under the chairmanship of acting President Nino Burdzhanadze, considered the early presidential elections, Council's Secretary Tedo Dzhaparidze told journalists.
The date of the elections will be named in the near future, he said. This is likely to happen on Tuesday at the parliament's session, said Dzhaparidze. The West is ready to allocate five million dollars for the elections, he added.
"Under the Constitution, the presidential elections are to be held within the 45 days since the resignation of the head of the state," the National Security Council Secretary said.
The Council heard the information on the situation in the state security sphere," Dzhaparidze noted.
"There are armed people who hung on to political parties. If they really are from secret services, this must be confirmed by documents," said State Security Minister Valery Khaburdzania.
