Deputy Foreign Ministers of Russia and China Yuri Fedotov and Sheng Guofan discussed in Madrid the questions of Iraq's postwar rehabilitation, the information and press department of Russia's Foreign Ministry reported.
According to the department, the sides confirmed the essentially common stands of Russia and China on the postwar settlement and rehabilitation of Iraq.
"Both sides proceed from the need to proceed with purposeful efforts to terminate early the occupation and create an internationally recognised Iraqi government", the report emphasises.
Russia and China also proceed from the idea that the UN is designed to play "a substantial leading role" in this process, the department officials noted.
Some other topical questions of interaction between Russia and China on the agenda of the 58th session of the UN General Assembly were also considered.
The meeting of the Deputy Foreign Ministers of Russia and China took place within the Madrid conference on the rehabilitation of Iraq.
