The Kazakhstani national nuclear company Kazatomprom produced 2,800 tons of uranium in 2002, which was 8 percent of the total uranium production in the world. The company ranked fourth among uranium producing companies in the world, according to the World Nuclear Association.
The company is planning to increase uranium production to 15,000 tons per year by 2028. This advance is expected to be achieved by putting into operation new fields and developing its current deposits.
