Yury Ushakov, who serves as Russia's Ambassador to the United States, sent a statement dealing with the second anniversary of terrorist attacks in New York and Washington to leading US mass-media bodies.
We grieve together with the relatives of those, who were killed and who had suffered in 2001, also honoring their memory, Ushakov's statement reads in part.
Russia doesn't know about terrorism from hearsay. Terrorism took a bloody toll in Moscow, in the North Caucasus and other Russian regions over the last few years. This is our pain; that's why we are taking current emotions of US citizens so close to heart, the statement goes on to say.
Terrorism knows no borders in the modern world. We must prevent modern civilization from becoming infected with the bacillus of terrorism, so that we won't have to fear any surprise attacks, the document notes.
Russia and the United States have jointly accomplished a lot for the sake of neutralizing terrorist dangers over the last two years. Still even more remains to be done. The Presidents of Russia and the United States, who will once again meet on US territory soon enough, are setting us this task, the high-ranking Russian diplomat's statement says.
September 11 is a day of memory. Today, we hold together with the families of the deceased and with those, who had felt the mortal grip of international terrorism, the statement notes in conclusion.
