Chairman of the Kurdish Worker's Party (PKK) in Armenia Ylmaz Shiar said at a press conference yesterday that the PKK intended to begin military activity against Turkey. Shiar said that Turkey must stop military activity against the PKK and remove its military troops and secret services from the Kurdish villages. If that does not happen within two weeks, they will renew military activity against Turkey for which a moratorium was announced four years ago by PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan.
Concerning the health of Ocalan, Shiar said that the Turkish authorities have him detained in inhuman conditions and are trying to undermine his health. On August 10 Ocalan, through his lawyers, petitioned the EU to send a commission to the island of Imrali where he is imprisoned. According to Ocalan, his health has taken a serious turn for the worst due to poor prison conditions.
