The government of Tajikistan is interested in deploying a Russian military base in the republic, Tajik Defence Minister Sherali Khairulloyev announced.
In his recent interview with Tajik mass media, the minister said that "in order to avoid disagreements" the parties "should draw necessary documents judicially correctly so that they are in line with the laws and constitutions of Tajikistan and the Russian Federation." Since July 21st, a working group of the Russian Defence Ministry headed by chief of the Land Forces' Main Staff Colonel General Alexander Morozov has been working in Dushanbe.
The aim of the visit it to specify the details of the Russian-Tajik documents to be signed.
Earlier it was reported that the 201st Russian motor rifle division stationed in Tajikistan will be modified into a Russian base.
