The German Foreign Ministry has excluded North Osetia, a constituent member of the Russian Federation bordering on Georgia, from the list of Russian regions which are not recommended for visiting by German citizens, said German Consul in Russia Aksel Weishaupt who arrived in North Osetia on a working trip.
According to him, the republic was included in the above-said list in connection with the developments in Chechnya but later the Embassy of Germany in Russia classified North Osetia as "a politically stable region".
It is already the second trip of the German consul to North Osetia over the past half-year. Germany intends to broaden the links with this Russian region and to attract representatives of its business community there for setting up joint production units, the diplomat said. According to him, processing of environmentally clean produce of local agriculture and the possibilities to develop mountain tourism there roused particular interest of German businessmen.
