Georgian servicemen ready to be sent to Iraq

Georgian servicemen are ready to go to Iraq and are only waiting for the permission of the parliament, RIA Novosti was told by Georgian Deputy Defence Minister Gela Bezhuashvili.

According to him, the President of the republic, Eduard Shevardnadze, has already asked the parliament to give this permission.

As is planned, over seventy Georgian servicemen will be sent to the Iraqi town of Tikrit to the zone of responsibility of the American fourth mechanised division. Out of the seventy Georgian servicemen 34 are from the special task unit, 20 - physicians and 15 - sappers.
