Russian business leader calls on Romanians to work more aggressively in Russia

Romanian President Ion Iliescu will meet with Russian and Romanian businesspeople during his visit to Russia at the beginning of July. The Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs' (RSPP) PR department told Rosbalt that agreement on this had been reached during a meeting in Bucharest between the Romanian president and RSPP president Arkady Volsky.

During his visit to Romania, which ended yesterday, Volsky took part in the opening of a Romanian-Russian business centre and held meetings with Romanian businesspeople, including George Paunescu, the head of the Romanian General Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. Volsky said that the Romanian market 'could be attractive to Russian companies specialising in the energy sector, machine building, oil refining, and high technology.' Volsky said that 'Russian companies using advanced energy and conversion technologies that can sharply reduce the cost of electricity generation in Romania and raise the competitiveness of Romanian goods' are the most likely investors in the Romanian economy. In particular, he suggested that Russian energy equipment could be installed in power stations built with Soviet assistance, and also in new power stations that use modern gas turbines.

Volsky also called on Romanian businesspeople to 'work more aggressively in the Russian market, especially in the regions', and regretted that there are only 10 joint enterprises in Russia that have Romanian investment.
