Russia is steadily conducting a policy towards integrating into the world energy economy.
This statement in Doha was made by Russian Deputy Minister of Energy Alexander Voronin who heads the Russian delegation at the extraordinary 125th conference of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), which has met in the Qatar capital.
According to Voronin, the developing co-operation with OPEC since 1998, Russia understands that these contacts reflect mutual interest in receiving reliable information and in exchanging views on the current situation and the forecasts for the development of the world oil markets.
Such information, underscored Alexander Voronin, makes it possible, in particular, to take more sensible decisions on strategic trends in the development of the energy sector of Russia.
At the end of May, the Russian government considered and approved of The Energy Strategy for the Period of up to 2010. This strategy provides for the growth in oil production up to 450-520 mln tons, in comparison with the 380 mln tons last year. Foreign oil demand will also increase and may reach 268-309 mln tons.
Such forecasts cannot be made without taking into consideration the world tendencies, said the spokesman for the Russian Energy Ministry. Russia will continue its policy towards developing co-operation not only with OPEC, he underscored, but also with big oil producing countries, which are not members of this world oil cartel.
