Russian Nadezhda Petrova has booked a semifinal berth at the French Open, which has a prize fund of six million dollars.
Petrova beat fellow Russian Vera Zvonareva in her quarterfinal match in Paris on Tuesday.
Petrova recorded a 6:1, 4:6, 6:3 win in 1 hour 47 minutes.
The match was extremely tense, as in the final set Vera Zvonareva managed to break her opponent's serve to lead 3:1. The 18-year-old only had to hold her only serve, but failed to do so. The score was tied 3:3 after the next two games and then Nadezhda Petrova took the initiative preventing her opponent from taking another game.
Petrova now awaits either Conchita Martinez or Kim Clijsters in the semifinal.
