'In order to move forward, you need to make concessions, and conditions must be reciprocal,' said Chief EU Commission Spokesman Reijo Kempinnen commenting on the opinion of the European commission about the future of cooperation of EU countries and CIS countries. He said that EU Commission President Romano Prodi stated that it is necessary for the EU to cooperate with its future neighbors of the enlarged alliance. According to Prodi, it would allow the EU to gradually intensify cooperation in order that these countries (who are not members of the EU or candidate members) could join the EU.
Kempinnen also said that these questions will be discussed at the Russia-EU summit at the Konstantinovsky palace on May 31 in terms of 'one European economic territory.' At the same time, he said that it would be possible to make progress in the case that if the countries of the CIS would agree with the requirements and conditions of such cooperation.
