First batch of Kamaz trucks dispatched to Afghanistan

The first batch of 12 KAMAZ-43114 trucks was dispatched on Thursday to Afghanistan in compliance with the agreement on the delivery of equipment for transporting humanitarian goods.

The contract for the delivery of 72 trucks of the Kamsk motor plant (Tatarstan) was concluded on April 7, 2003 when the plant won a tender held under the aegis of the UN. Taking part in it were leading automobile enterprises - truck producers - from Russia and the European countries.

The Kamsk trucks were delivered to Kabul earlier, and their position on the Afghan market is traditionally strong.

The executor of the order is the Danish supplies and deliveries agency which has its missions in Asia, Africa and Europe.

The main manager of the project Marco Sojsted, who visited the Kamsk plant on Wednesday, declared that this is the first for his company delivery of automobiles from Russia. According to him, the UN catalogues did not have information about KAMAZ trucks only recently and now he is going to include it there.

UN inspector Finn Lundsdorf assessed KAMAZ cross-country vehicles before they were dispatched by railway. The automobiles have engines of the Euro-1 level with a capacity of 240 h/p, and blue cabins and tents.

The KAMAZ plant is going to dispatch the second batch of trucks ahead of time - on May 30 instead of June 10 as was stipulated by the contract. The last batch will be dispatched on June 13.
