The Southern Caucuses region plays an exceptional role in providing security for NATO, said NATO General Director George Robertson while speaking at the French University of Armenia on May 15. Robertson is located in Armenia on a two-day work visit.
He also said that Armenia now plays an exceptional role in the NATO program 'Partnership for Peace,' and a decision to conduct in the country on June 16-28, 2003 military exercises 'Cooperative Best Effort - 2003' will be good not only for Armenia but also for the region as a whole. Robertson said that the active cooperation of Armenia and NATO will allow the organization to provide a large amount of support for the republic.
According to the press service of the Armenian president, in a meeting with Robertson Armenian President Robert Kocharyan said that the 'balanced politics of NATO in the Caucuses will contribute to the maintenance of peace and stability in the region.'
