The forces of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) are ready to ensure security in all the southern Iraqi cities and towns which have mainly Shi'ite population (Shi'ism is, alongside Sunnism, one of the two main trends in Islam). This was stated by representative of this grouping Saleh Moussawi.
"At the SCIRI headquarters in the Iraqi city of Basra representatives of Great Britain's command, based in that city, were informed of this proposal," Iranian agency IRNA quotes him as saying.
On the other hand, one of the Great Britain military command representatives holds the view, that people do not trust the leadership of the political parties, because people's emotional state was considerably hurt during the rule of Saddam Hussein's regime, and people have no confidence in it.
As the British officer said, some groupings have arms. This gave grounds for intimidating the common population, which refrains from sharing the point of view of political groups. People are simply afraid.
