Moldovan Leader Suggests Double Citizenship Be Legalised

Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin has proposed to legalise double citizenship in Moldova.

The press service of the Moldovan President said that Vladimir Voronin had sent a legislative initiative to Parliament to introduce changes and amendments to the law on citizenship adopted in June 2000.

The initiative was elaborated to legalise double citizenship, as the provisions of the Constitution lift all restrictions on acquiring the citizenship of other states.

The Moldovan president proposes to add an article under which in a bid to become a citizen of another state, the individual cannot be deprived of Moldovan citizenship.

According to another initiative, former Moldovan citizens will be entitled to re-acquire Moldovan citizenship remaining citizens of other states.
