Sanctions Against Iraq Can Be Lifted Only After International Inspectors' Conclusion

The UN Security Council resolution to lift sanctions against Iraq can only be passed on the basis of UNMOVIC and IAEA inspectors' official conclusion, the Russian Foreign Ministry's official spokesman, Alexander Yakovenko, has informed journalists.

"As soon as we have the inspectors' official conclusion, the UN Security Council will pass a resolution lifting the sanctions," the official spokesman stated.

Russia welcomes lifting sanctions imposed on Iraq, "but on the basis of all corresponding resolutions of the UN Security Council concerning Iraq's disarmament", Yakovenko recalled.
