Belarus to pay off part of debts to Gazprom

The Belarusian Finance Ministry will allocate $40m to Beltransgaz to pay off debts to Gazprom for gas supplies. The money will be taken from the third tranche of a state credit given by Russia at the end of December 2002.

Belarusian debts for supplies of energy resources dropped from $226m on January 1, 2003 to $195m on April 1, 2003. According to the Belarusian Energy Ministry, Belarusian debts to Itera and Transnafta decreased from $42m to $1.6m in the first quarter of 2003. At the same time, debts to Gazprom grew from $130m to $150m.
