Belarus is starting to create the first artificial satellite.
Belarussian president Alexander Lukashenko made this decision at a special session on Tuesday.
The attention of the president was drawn to the programme elaborated by Belarussian scientists to create a single system of remote probing of the Earth.
According to the president's press service, the programme provides for the in-orbit delivery of an artificial satellite that will allow for high-precision monitoring of the earth surface processes and for a relevant infrastructure that will process satellite data.
Specialists from the Russian Airspace Agency present at the session voiced their utter support for the project and readiness to take part in it.
Lukashenko instructed the government and the Belarussian Academy of Sciences to prepare the feasibility study of the project and establish a land infrastructure. The president is confident that the space programme will boost the country's reputation abroad and bring economic benefits.
