North Korea will not recognize the legality of resolutions issued by the United Nations Security Council if they concern Pyongyang's nuclear program, the North Korean media reported ahead of the April 9 discussion of the North Korean issue in the UN Security Council.
The report said the UN was "fully paralysed" by the US invasion of Iraq and labelled the Security Council's decision to take up the subject of Pyongyang at that very moment as "ludicrous." Besides, according to the report, solution of the problem with North Korea's nuclear program depended only on the USA. As a matter of fact, the problem arose from the States' hostility towards North Korea and could only be solved by means of concluding a non-aggression pact. "There is no other alternative," the report said.
Relations between Washington and Pyongyang worsened in 2002, when the USA included North Korea in an "axis of evil" alongside Iraq and Iran. The onset of the current war in Iraq further exacerbated the apprehension of the North Korean side.
