Russia and Japan will continue talks on the conclusion of a bilateral peace treaty on the basis of the earlier achieved agreements, including the joint declaration of 1956, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov told Russian and Japanese journalists. Losyukov participated in the bilateral consultations between Russian and Japanese deputy foreign ministers in Tokyo on Wednesday.
"The work on the bilateral peace treaty conclusion should be carried out along with the development of Russian-Japanese relations in all spheres," he stressed.
The mechanism for the discussion of the peace treaty issue has already been elaborated, Losyukov said. This is a bilateral commission, headed by the foreign ministers, and a committee, headed by their deputies.
