On Thursday more than 50 per cent of Latvian doctors, nurses and hospital attendants went on the second strike in this month. They didn't go to work to participate in the manifestations of protest against the policy of the Latvian authorities in health and social spheres.
Some 1,000 people gathered by the building of the Latvian government in Riga's centre. They demanded immediate rise in salary, which doesn't meet the subsistence level. The strikers also want the government to proclaim public health care its priority trends.
The Latvian trade-union of public health care and social security officials is planning to hold another strike in September. It will be more rigid and will last at least for two days.
