U.S. capital presence not to broaden in Uzbekistan

On Wednesday Islam Karimov, President of Uzbekistan, and Paul O'Neil, Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, discussed broadening of the presence of American capital in Uzbekistan.

At the Wednesday press conference held on results of their meeting, Islam Karimov emphasized that "serious, stable guarantees for American capital" must be created for that in Uzbekistan.

Under discussion was Uzbekistan's implementation of the monitoring programme of the International Monetary Fund. Uzbekistan has actually fulfilled all the obligations provided for in this programme, said Islam Karimov. Further steps to large-scale cooperation between Uzbekistan and the IMF, World Bank were also considered, said Karimov.

In turn, Paul O'Neil thanked Uzbekistan for help in the fight on international terrorism and stressed that Uzbekistan is dynamically developing at a rate which it requires.
