Fulfilment of the agreements reached at the G8 summit in Kananaskis was on the agenda of the meeting between Russian deputy foreign minister Georgy Mamedov and Director General for Multilateral Political Affairs and Human Rights at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Giancarlo Aragona.
The parties paid special attention to practical fulfilment of the political agreements, reached in Kananaskis and concerning global partnership of the G8 in non-proliferation of weapons and materials of mass destruction, as RIA Novosti learned at the foreign ministry's press and information department. In the coming talks with Italy and other G8 partners, Russia is first of all interested in projects for eliminating chemical weapons and utilizing wrote-off nuclear submarines, the ministry stressed.
The Russian leaders gave a high assessment to the results of the Kananaskis summit, and, in particular, to bilateral interaction with Italy, Mamedov pointed out.
The parties stressed the importance of Russia-Italy cooperation on many issues discussed by the G8 leaders. They are global economic problems, strategic stability and regional conflicts settlement, first of all in the Middle East, the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
